Rotterdam Cactus Building

Urban Cactus is a housing project in the Vuurplaat section of Rotterdam by UCX Architects / Ben Huygen and Jasper Jaegers and done for Vestia Rotterdam Feijenoord/Estrade Projecten. Due to its siting at the end of harbor, the architects chose to conceptualize the project as belonging to the “green nerve” rather than the surrounding urban structure.

They placed the 98 residential units on 19 floors, using the pattern of outdoor spaces to determine the overall appearance of the project. The slightly irregular pattern alternates these outdoor spaces to create what are in effect double-height spaces. Each unit then receives more sunlight than a typical stacked composition. Also the terrace area might be equivalent to a constant depth extended around the perimeter (say two meters), but their configuration creates larger “rooms” for gardening and for enjoying the outdoors and the city views.

The ground floor has commercial space and a deepened plinth containing the entrance, depositories and parking space. The building includes four types of residences, varying from 65 to 110 square meters per residence. Two types of floors with 4 apartments and two more types of floors each with 6 apartments are enough to accommodate different houses. By rotating each floor type with accordance to the layout, a versatile pattern of thorny outside areas comes into existence. Every residence has its place in the overall façade. The size of the outside areas, the outline and the facilities to horticulture, maximize the garden feeling. A view over the city from the private garden creates a summit of urban living.

Dubaï Business Bay City

Business Bay ‎is a central business district under construction in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The project features numerous skyscrapers located in an area where Dubai Creek will be dredged and extended. Business Bay will have upwards of 230 buildings, attracting commercial and residential developments.

Business Bay extends from Ras Al Khor to Sheikh Zayed Road. It is located for international trade as one end of the development touches Sheikh Zayed Road with its office towers housing international firms and the financial institutions of the Dubai International Financial Center. International hotels such as the Emirates Towers and Shangri-La are also on Sheikh Zayed Road. On the Creek side, Business Bay is next to the Dubai Festival Center and is in close proximity to Dubai International Airport.

The Rose Tower: Soon to become the new tallest hotel in the world

479px-rose_rotana_tower_on_14_september_2007_pict_2.jpgThe Rose Tower is a 333 metre (1,093 feet), 72-story skyscraper on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Originally, the tower was to be 380 m (1,247 feet) high, but its projected height was reduced in further design modification. Construction began in 2004. On 24 October 2006, the building reached its full height with the addition of the spire. The tower will be the world’s tallest hotel when it opens in April 2008.This hotel, known as “Rose Rotana Suites,” will surpass the 321 m (1,053 ft) Burj Al Arab, also in Dubai.

ROSE TOWER is promoted by the Rotana Group based in Abu Dhabi. At 333 meters high with 72 storeys and 480 suites, this will be the tallest furnished hotel in the world according to the Guinness Books of Records among all other suites hotel and is sure to enhance the already dazzling skyline of Dubai with its Multitude of sky scrapers.

This hotel comprises an apartment tower with fully furnished studio flats, Single Bed Room, Double bed room and Three Bed Room Flats. In addition to that the apartment tower comprised world-class restaurants, cafeteria gymnastic halls etc. with security and electromechanical services.

The Consultant is Khatib and Alami Consolidated Engineering Co. who is one of the leading consultants in Dubai and this project is going to be executed by its developer, The Abecco Group.

Eeversendai is sub-contractor for the Connection Design, Supply, Shop Drawings, Fabrication & Erection of steel works, which reinforces the concrete floors and columns.

Burj Al Arab, Dubai: The Tallest Hotel in the World

_editor_burj_al_arab_01.jpgThe Burj Al Arab (Arabic: برج العرب, “Tower of the Arabs”) is a luxury hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates managed by the Jumeirah Group and built by Said Khalil. It was designed by Tom Wright of WS Atkins PLC.

At 321 metres (1,053 ft), it is the tallest building used exclusively as a hotel. However, the Rose Tower, also in Dubai, which has already topped Burj Al Arab’s height, will take away this title upon its opening in April 2008. The Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 metres (919 ft) out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. It is an iconic structure, designed to symbolize Dubai’s urban transformation and to mimic the sail of a boat.

Construction of Burj Al Arab began in 1994. It was built to resemble the sail of a dhow, a type of Arabian vessel. Two “wings” spread in a V to form a vast “mast”, while the space between them is enclosed in a massive atrium. Architect Tom Wright said “The client wanted a building that would become an iconic or symbolic statement for Dubai; this is very similar to Sydney with its Opera House, or Paris with the Eiffel Tower. It needed to be a building that would become synonymous with the name of the country.” The architect and engineering consultant for the project was Atkins, the UK’s largest multidisciplinary consultancy. The hotel was built by South African construction contractor Murray & Roberts. The hotel cost $650 million to build.

Armani Hotel At Burj Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Giorgio Armani S.p.A. has awarded a long-term license to EMAAR Hotel & Resorts LLC for the operation of the hotels and resorts, where EMAAR will be fully responsible for real estate, construction, management and operations. Giorgio Armani will oversee all aspects of content, design and style, including interiors and amenities, incorporating the various Armani fashion, furnishings and beauty collections.

Giorgio Armani S.p.A. has established an Armani Hotels and Resorts division at its headquarters in Milan, which has been actively developing the design concepts under the close supervision of Giorgio Armani. This will define the look and feel of the hotels and resorts.
